United We Stand...and dress

Wikipedia defines a uniform as "a type of clothing worn by members of an organization while participating in that organization's activity." Pretty simple, huh?
Now, think of all the different types of uniforms there are and the people who wear them...
  • sports teams/athletes
  • students
  • pilots
  • flight attendants
  • members of the  military
  • doctors
  • nurses
  • police officers
  • fire fighters
  • public service workers
  • postal carriers
  • lifeguards
The list could continue on and on, but one that certainly needs to be included is Girl Scouts!
When we put on our Girl Scout uniform, it shows that we belong and what we are wearing unites us as Girl Scout sisters. But, don't feel too pinned down like you can't express yourself while in uniform! You can still wear your favorite jewelry and shoes, do your hair however you like, wear makeup and, of course, dress up that uniform with a smile.
It is our uniform that says "I am a Girl Scout." With that simple statement we are recognized as the amazing girls and women we are, earning respect and admiration.

The official uniform is a vest or sash and your membership pins and you can find all the info you need about that here and purchase them here.

The great thing about Girl Scout uniforms is how they have changed over time according to current styles and the availability of fabrics. Fashion was certainly different in 1912 than is now! Check out drawings of uniforms through the years of Girl Scouts.

Which one is your favorite?
How about this one for Girl Scout Brownies from 1973? Imagine it in brown with bright tangerine accents!

As you get back into school and your other activities starting up this fall, remember the importance of all your uniforms, official and not so official!
